Week 38 (for two people)


Food Storage: 30 lb of wheat or flour

Extra Item: 11 lb of macaroni or spaghetti

Family Gear Box: Mirror, magnesium fire starter, books to read. Be sure to include the scriptures.

Family Preparedness: Purchase and install emergency ladders for upper-floor windows.

Spiritual Preparedness: Read “A Matter of a Few Degrees” by Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Ensign, May 2008, p. 57-60.
”Small errors and minor drifts away from the doctrine of the gospel of Jesus Christ can bring sorrowful consequences into our lives. It is therefore of critical importance that we become self-disciplined enough to make early and decisive corrections to get back on the right track and not wait or hope that errors will somehow correct themselves.”

Week 37 (for two people)



Food Storage: Fruit drink (to make 30 quarts)

Extra Item: Shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste (to last 6 months)

Family Gear Box: Add some white and brown sugar or some honey to make your food more tasty.

Family Preparedness: Look into a living will and other documents you may need in times of crisis.

Spiritual Preparedness: Read Alma 34:17-28; 39. Strive to pray more diligently so you may be led and directed in your life and that you may be able to be filled with the Spirit more frequently.

Week 36 (for two people)


Food Storage: 8 cans of soup

Extra Item: 2 months of laundry soap

Family Gear Box: Assemble an activity box with games, cards, and other favorite toys.

Family Preparedness: Arrange for someone to help your children if you are at work and not able to return home during a disaster.

Spiritual Preparedness: Read “Gratitude: A Path to Happiness” by Bonnie D. Parkin, May 2007 Ensign, p. 34. Gratitude is a Spirit-filled principle. It opens our minds to a universe permeated with the richness of a living God. Make a list each day of the blessing you have in your life.

Week 35 (for two people)


Food Storage: 8 cans of meat

Extra Item: 8 rolls of toilet paper
Family Gear Box: Include some of the seasonings and spices that your family likes.

Family Preparedness: Check with your children’s babysitter of school about their disaster plans and how parents will be contacted if a disaster happens during business hours.

Spiritual Preparedness: Read “Discipleship” by President James E. Faust, November 2006 Ensign, page 20. One of the greatest blessings of life and eternity is to be counted as one of the devoted disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. How are you doing?

Week 34 (for two people)


Food Storage: 30 lb wheat or flour

Extra Item: 30 lb of beans

Family Gear Box: A multi-tool and a basic tool kit.

Family Preparedness: Practice a drill for each of your evacuation plans. Identify a storage area for your supplies, such as a closet along an inside wall or several heavy duty watertight garbage cans that can be stored outside. If using outside storage, ensure that containers are weather and animal proof.

Spiritual Preparedness: Read Revelations 3:20. Resolve to do your part to involve Christ in your life.

Week 33 (for two people)


Food Storage: 6 lb of jam

Extra Item: 20 lb of oats

Family Gear Box: A hammer and a variety of nails. A saw for cutting wood and another saw for cutting metal.

Family Preparedness: Identify escape routes from house for all family members and identify safe places to go in case of fire, flood, earthquake, or other disaster.

Spiritual Preparedness: Mark your favorite scripture and share it with your family.

Week 32 (for two people)


Food Storage: 8 cans of vegetables

Extra Item: 30 lb of rice

Family Gear Box: lantern flashlight, flashlight, and batteries (AAA, AA, D)

Family Preparedness: Review your family disaster plan including where to meet if separated. Decide on and notify an out-of-area contact that can coordinate information for scattered family members. Discuss with your family the name and number of your out-of-area contact, and kinds of information to give that contact in an emergency.

Spiritual Preparedness: Read Alma 37:37. Strive this week to counsel with the Lord. Look for his direction in your life.
